Tulsi has anti-bacterial, anti-biotic and fungicidal properties. These properties make it apt for curing fevers. In Ayurveda, a person suffering from fever is given a decoction made from the leaves of tulsi.

Tulsi contains a powerful anti-oxidant component –‘Eugenol’. This compound protects the heart by keeping one’s blood pressure in check and by lowering his/her cholesterol levels. If you regularly chew a few tulsi leaves on an empty stomach, you can keep a heart ailments at bay.

Chewing tulsi provides a cooling effect to the throat just like mint thereby helping a person control the urge to smoke. Ayurveda depends on tulsi when it comes to helping someone quit the habit of smoking. Chewing tulsi leaves when one has the urge to smoke is a good idea. The antioxidants present in tulsi will also help in fighting the damage that happens inside the body due to smoking for several years.

Tulsi has purifying properties. It purifies the blood and brings a natural glow to the skin. It also prevents acne and blemishes as it is antifungal and antibacterial in nature. It is quite effective for those who have an acne prone skin. When used for the hair, it can reduce the hair fall and itching of the scalp. You can chew on the leaves or apply the paste of tulsi as a face pack.
