BKS Iyengar and his ideology on Yoga
This is no weight loss post, just our bit for the foremost Yoga Guru.
Rightly said by the Late Shri BKS Iyengar (14 December 1918 – 20 August 2014)
“I always tell people live happily and die majestically”
This post is a tribute to him.
Late Shri Iyengar started his yoga school in 1973 in the western city of Pune, developing a unique form of the practice that he said anyone could follow. And I consider myself lucky to have learned yoga from this institute, while I was studying law in Pune.
Shri BKS Iyengar is the foremost yoga teachers who developed his own practice which is practiced world wide, there are over 100 Iyengar schools all over the world.
If you are beginning into yoga, Iynegar yoga is perfect. There are uses of blankets, props, straps and belts which takes care of injuries, tightness or any imbalances. The start with Iyengar helps you attaining the required flexibility, concentration and correct posture which is a integral part of Iyengar Yoga.
Shri BKS Iyengar suffered from a heart attack when he was 80, he went back to practice and normal life. He died last year in August, he was 95.
The concept of Patanjali yoga originated from here, Patanjali who was an Indian Scholar comprised the Raja Yoga philosopy (ancient) in various yoga sutras, which was brought forward by Iyengar himself. There were 4 yoga sutras divided into stages (1) Samadhi- which is total state of meditation, (2) Sadhana- Practice of ashtanga yoga, (3)Vibhuti- extraordinary powers of a yogi, (4) Kaivalya- Ultimate spiritual living. These are some excerpts from his book Yoga Sutra of Patanjali.
This concept of patanjali, was incorporated by Late Shri BKS Iyengar.

2.At the age of 90, he continued to practice asanas for 3 hours and pranayamas for an hour daily. Besides this, he mentioned that he found himself performing non-deliberate pranayamas at other times.
3. His wife died when she was 46 and Iyengar named his yoga institute, the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute.
4. Shri Iyengar loved nature and animals, he donated Rs. 2 Million to a Zoo in Mysore and adopted a tiger and a cub in memory of his wife.
5. He was awarded the Padma Shri in 1991, the Padma Bhushan in 2002 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2014.
His yoga ideology is being followed world wide, his death was a sad event for the whole world.
But I take immense pride that we Indians are from the land of Shri Iyengar.
Take good care.
