The worst part is that you feel tired and groggy the next day. You just can’t concentrate on things. Music and yoga before bed are two good remedies. Remember to play soft and melodious music, playing dance numbers will do no good. There are some people who can’t sleep no matter what! Such people take sleeping pills and let me tell you that they are not safe at all. They have side effects.
For those of you who are struggling to fall asleep at night, using essential oils is also a good idea. They work pretty well as a natural sedative and the best thing is that they have no side-effects. So, you need not stick to sleeping pills. Get your sleep naturally with essential oils.
How To Fight Insomnia With 4 Essential Oils?
The first on the block is sandalwood oil. This oil is used commonly in aromatherapy for different ailments. Japanese research says that inhalation of sandalwood oil can be sedative. However, the research was carried out on sleep disturbed mice and not on sleep disturbed humans! The sedating effects of sandalwood oil are attributed to a compound called santalol present in it. Though it has not been tested on humans, you can always try inhaling sandalwood oil and see if it is inducing sleep.
Many studies have said that lavender oil has a soothing effect on the mind as well as the body. It is known to be a highly effective but mild sedative. You can either inhale a few drops of lavender oil on a tissue paper or use a diffuser if you have one. Another way of relaxing yourself would be to add a few drops of the essential oil to a bucket of warm water and bathe with that. This is a great way out if you don’t have a bath tub like most of us Indians don’t have.
Like lavender oil, the essential oil of chamomile also acts like a sedative and is used to fight insomnia. Are you aware that apart from insomnia, the essential oil is also a natural and effective remedy to reduce anxiety and depression?
According to research carried out by Germans, jasmine oil is said to act as a natural sedative. You might not believe it but the fact is that jasmine oil is as calming as valium. The amazing part is that there are no side effects of inhaling jasmine oil, unlike valium.
It is great that you can sleep well the natural way with these essential oils. However, please make sure that you are not allergic to any of these essential oils. It would be even better to get the opinion of an aromatherapist as to how much oil you have to use for the right effect. It is always good to be aware so that you don’t have any adverse effects.
