Top 5 Foods That Zap Your Energy!
Are you plagued by tiredness and lethargy all the time? Are you having a wish list of things you would want to do if you had more energy? Don’t just blame yourself, your diet has a role to play in it too. Now, you may ask, how come food can make you lose energy when we all know that ‘food is fuel’. Well, the truth is that all food is not fuel! Here is a list of foods that are zapping you of energy. Moreover, they make you put on weight. So, it is better to say a big NO to such foods. Read on!
1) Cakes, pastries, muffins, chocolates and candy
I know you are drooling! The above foods are everyone’s favourite. But the problem is that they are BAD for you. These foods are packed with sugar. Now you will think how come sugar is bad for your energy levels? Doesn’t sugar get converted to energy? The truth is that unlike complex carbohydrates like whole grains, which the body breaks slowly, simple sugars get digested by the body pretty fast. They cause the blood sugar levels to sky-rocket and you must be aware that a blood sugar spike is always followed by a crash that may leave you drained out and tired. So, stick to complex carbs and refrain from eating goodies made from refined carbs and loads of sugar.
2) Creamy and sweet coffees
Coffee has a lot of health benefits to offer but they hold good only if the coffee is black or made with milk. Loading coffee with sugar, cream and different artificial flavours is not a great idea. Too much of cream will only raise your calorie consumption. Having too much of coffee should also be avoided. Try not to have a cup during the later part of the day as the caffeine in it will affect your circadian rhythm and keep you awake at night. Staying awake will make you get tired by next morning.
3) Soft drinks
Soft drinks are loaded with sugar, artificial colours and chemicals. Sugar makes you feel tired and the chemicals present in the soft drink strip your bones of calcium and cause a number of health issues including cancer. Even diet soft drinks are no good as they have artificial sweeteners like aspartame that has more than 92 side effects. It is up to you to decide whether you should have soft drinks or not!
4) White bread
As you are aware that white bread is made up of refined flour or maida. It lacks the fibre content and nutrients that whole wheat flour has to offer. Refined flour is a carb that is refined so much that it is simply sugar that the body absorbs quickly. On consuming refined flour you go through a spike in blood sugar levels followed by a crash and this leaves you exhausted. So stay away from sandwiches, pizzas and subs.
5) Fried food
You must have noted that after having a meal of fried delicacies, you don’t have the energy to do anything. All you want is catch forty winks. It is not surprising at all. The reason is that your digestive system works really hard in processing the greasy fat in the food, leaving you with no energy.
