Harcombe Diet-All You Need To Know!
The Harcombe Diet plan is one where you stop counting calories and start losing weight! You must have been tired of counting calories of the food you consume every day. If you come across a diet that provides you freedom from counting calories, won’t you be happy?
Harcombe Diet has been developed by nutritionist Zoe Harcombe. She herself had once struggled to shed kilos. She was addicted to sugar loaded snacks and refined carbs. However, she found that the more she tried to reduce food the more weight she gained. She started losing weight only when she changed the way she ate and stopped counting calories. It was from here that she developed the Harcombe Diet.
For whom is Harcombe Diet meant for?
The Harcombe Diet is meant for anyone who happens to experience cravings and wants to get rid of addiction of certain foods like chocolate and refined carbs. It is for people who have been on calorie restricted diets to lose weight but have found the kilos bounce back! All those who want to shed weight without sacrificing too much can go in for this diet! People who have uncomfortable symptoms post meals can also benefit from this diet.
What all can be eaten in this diet?
The diet is based on the fact that there are 3 common medical problems that result in food cravings and they are themselves a result of calorie restricted diet. Those medical conditions are candida, food intolerance and hypoglycaemia.
The Harcombe diet focuses on swapping fake food with real food. Instead of reducing the amount eaten by calorie counting, followers of this diet eat enough. Zoe has explained on her site that is all about ‘making the calories you eat count’.
The diet is divided into 3 phases and they are:
Phase one: This lasts for 5 days. During this period you can enjoy unlimited meat, eggs, fish and veggies (excluding potatoes and mushrooms), yoghurt, herbs, spices and 1 portion of the ‘safe grains’ like brown rice, quinoa, oats.
Phase two: This phase lasts for as long as you want to lose weight. Baked potatoes, dairy products and whole grains are brought back in this phase.
Phase three: This phase lasts for a lifetime. It tells you the golden rules of “cheating” while maintaining an ideal weight.
More detailed information is present in Zoe Harcombe’s book.
How much weight can be lost with the help of this diet?
This is what most people want to know about. The results!!! Well the nutritionist claims that when a person follows this diet, he/she can lose 5 to 7 pounds in the first 5 days! In terms of kilos that would be approx. 2.5 to 3.5 kgs.
What do experts feel?
The fundamental principle of Harcombe Diet is to have real food. Well, experts in the field of nutrition say that it is a pretty sound advice. The book written by Zoe also says that medical conditions such as food intolerance, candida and hypoglycaemia occur due to consuming wrong food combinations. A noted nutritionist says that the logic of food-combining works well for individuals that have a slow metabolic rate. However, it must be noted that this diet is not a one size fits all solution. Individuals with digestive troubles like fatty liver and an inflamed gut should consult a nutritionist before going onto this kind of diet.
