All About Low Carb Indian Diet
Low carb diet is a kind of a lifestyle and not a diet plan. You need to stick to it if you want to lose weight and maintain it. So first of all understand it clearly that low carb diet can be a little difficult for Indian taste buds. We live on wheat and rice but these are not allowed in low carb diet. A lot of protein is consumed in low carb diet and again sugar is off limits.
Now that you know the most terrible things about low carb diet, let me tell you that it is not that tough to follow for us Indians and it works really well. It is especially good for people with sedentary lifestyle but may not suit athletes who do lots of anaerobic physical activities.
For me, low carb diet has given fabulous results. It has not only helped me in shedding a lot of weight but it has also brought my sweet-cravings down to near zero 🙂 Once low carb diet becomes your regime, you will not feel like going back to high carb foods.
What You Can Eat in Low Carb Indian Diet
Vegetables and Fruits- Include veggies like cauliflower, broccoli, spinach, cabbage and carrots. For fruits, eat strawberries, oranges and apples etc.
Eggs- You can have them daily. There are many variations that you can try with eggs.
Nuts- You can have almonds and walnuts.
Non-Veg- Both chicken and lamb are allowed. In fish, you can consume salmon and haddock among others.
Dairy Products- High fat dairy is better. You can have butter, cheese, yogurt and cream.
Oils- You can consume oils in limited quantity. Oils like olive oil, coconut oil and cod-liver oil ar best.
You can have dark chocolates that are at least 70%cocoa. You can also have legumes but in limited quantities. Drink tea or coffee as per your preference but stress on water.
What You Cannot Eat in Low Carb Indian Diet
Processed Foods- It is never advisable.
Sugar- Shun everything from ice creams and sweets to artificial juices and soft drinks.
Artificial Sweeteners- Well, you can’t have artificial sweeteners as well. Stevia is good for some sweetness.
Cereals- Say goodbye to wheat in any form, semolina, rice and barley.
Low Fat Foods- This may sound contradictory but any food that says ‘diet’ or ‘low fat’ is prohibited in low carb diet.
Trans Fats- No hydrogenated oils.
Vegetable Oils High In Omega 6- Say no to sunflower oil, soybean and canola oil etc.
