Top 6 Mindful Eating Tips That Make You Eat Less
Eating clean and exercise alone will not help you lose weight. You need to learn more tips and tricks to be really successful. Mindful eating is one such way that will help you reach your destination. You must be aware of the benefits of mindful eating. If not, read this post here! Mindful eating helps you cut back on calories and achieve your weight loss goal. So, without much ado let’s start!
Tip 1: Between bites put your spoon down
After each bite, keep the spoon down instead of subconsciously loading it up with food. You see, when we eat we get into an automatic hand to mouth flow. If you put your spoon down, you slow your pace down intentionally and this gives the body some time to find out when it is no longer hungry. This prevents you from overeating.
Tip 2: Cut your portion size in half
All of us are conditioned to polish off our plates. We always decide on our portion size by our eyes according to plate size instead of our tummy size. But there is a way out! Just slice your portion size in half from the beginning and you will be surprised to know that it will be sufficient to fill your tummy up. If you aren’t satisfied you can always have a second helping.
Tip 3: Enjoy the first bite
Eating is just not about taste. It is a complete sensory experience. People eat food without paying attention to it. You need to pause for about 3 to 5 seconds before beginning and concentrate on your food. How does it look and smell like? While eating, you should concentrate on its texture and sound and then feel it moving from your throat to your stomach. Relishing your food gives your body a chance to get signals of satiety before you start overindulging.
Tip 4: Turn your television off
If you happen to pause for a meal it doesn’t mean that it is time to do multitasking. You will eat 14% more if you happen to eat with the TV on. Mindful eating cannot be practiced till you are totally engaged with your food. If the TV is on, your attention is bound to get divided and you won’t be able to eat mindfully. So, switch off the television and look at your plate alone.
Tip 5: Drink water 30 minutes prior to having a meal
It is quite common for people to mistake thirst for hunger. In order to ward off misleading signals you need to stay hydrated. So drink water 30 mins before having your meal and find out whether you are really hungry or not.
Tip 6: Clench your fist
This may sound weird but it can really pay off. There is a psychological theory behind it. When you think ‘no’ in your mind, your body connects it with a clenched fist and it means stop. So, with the other hand that you are not using to eat, make a fist at the commencement of your meal, in the middle of it and at the end of it. This will make you pay more attention to your food and make you find out how hungry you are.
