Top 12 Useful Diet Tips
Hello All!!
Here are a few useful diet tips for those who want to shed those kilos. By following these tips you can comfortable lose weight. Have a look!
1) Drink lots of water
May sound clichéd but water is the elixir of life. Before you start hogging on a bag of chips consider drinking a glass of water first. Thirst is at times confused with hunger. If you don’t like plain water, try adding a dash of lemon to it or have a herbal tea without sugar.
2) Choose mid-night snacks wisely
You can put your diet off track if you mindlessly eat after dinner. Watching TV and snacking are some of the favourite pass-times of people. If you can’t sleep without having midnight snacks, choose something that is low in calories.
3) Do enjoy your favourite food
Instead of completely avoiding your favourite foods have them in moderation. Purchase smaller quantities of your favourite food so that you don’t overindulge. Moderation is the key here. You can enjoy your favourite food at times but in smaller portions.
4) Eat 5 to 6 mini meals in a day
To lose weight, you need to burn more calories than you consume. Eating fewer calories can be a challenge if you are getting constantly hungry. Studies reveal that people who have more number of meals in a day, say, 4 to 5, are able to control their appetite and weight better.
5) Have protein in your meals
Protein fill you up the most. It is more satisfying than carbs or fats and will keep you full for longer. It helps in preserving muscle mass and encourages fat burning. So, make it a point to include healthy proteins in your food.
6) Add spices to your food
When you add chillies and spices to your food, you load it with flavour. The flavour stimulates the taste buds and makes you feel more satisfied. This way you won’t indulge much. By the way, Indian cuisine is already so spicy and flavourful. 😛
7) Have a cup of veggies instead of a cup of pasta
When you eat less amount of pasta, bread or veggies, you can lose weight in one year! By reducing the portion of starch and increasing the amount of starch on your plate, you can save 100 to 200 calories. So concentrate less on the carbs and focus on the veggies!
8) Never skip breakfast
Many people think that they can lose weight by simply skipping breakfast. On the contrary, studies show that by skipping breakfast you are piling on kilos. When you don’t eat breakfast, you will get hungry later and this leads to hogging at lunch and dinner. In order to lose weight, you need to spend time on the first meal of the day and that is breakfast. Have cereal, milk and fruits. You can have eggs along too.
9) Add fibre to your diet
Fibre helps in digestion, it prevents constipation, helps in lowering cholesterol and assists weight loss. Women need 25 g of fibre in a day and men need about 38 g. So, ensure that you are getting sufficient amounts of fibre from your food. Good sources of fibre are oatmeal, whole grain foods, beans, fruits and veggies.
10) Don’t stock up fattening foods at home
If there are chips in your kitchen shelf and ice-cream in your freezer, you are making weight loss more difficult for yourself. When such things are not stocked up at home, you won’t have the temptation to have them. I am not asking to give up all the tasty stuff, if you want an occasional treat, set outdoors for it. It would be better if you have to walk a distance to get your treat.
11) Control portions
Measure your meals with the help of measuring cups and weighing scales. Try using smaller plates and glasses so that there is a reduction in your portions. When you eat out, try splitting a single meal into 2, i.e. one meal can be consumed by 2 people! Don’t eat snacks directly from the container use bowls so that you can keep a check on your portions.
12) Maintain a food diary
Noting down what, when and how much you are eating will make aware of what is going inside you. According to a study, people who maintained a food diary 6 days a week lost twice as much weight as those who kept a diary for one day a week.
