People in Europe use rosemary to help treat indigestion. It has been approved to be used for treating dyspepsia. Though it is being used widely, there is no current scientific evidence that it helps in treating indigestion.

Research has found rosemary to be beneficial in enhancing memory and concentration. It improves the brain’s performance. It has an ingredient called carnosic acid that helps fight damage caused by free radicals in the brain. Japanese researchers have revealed that rosemary can help in preventing brain aging.
Even the smell of this herb improves memory. Studies have confirmed that individuals who inhaled the essential oil of rosemary had a better memory quality. Rosemary’s smell is also known to enhance one’s mood.
In one cancer research report it was mentioned that the extract of rosemary is effective in cancers of the breast, blood, skin, colon and prostate as it has a compound called carnosal. It is a good anti-tumour and anti-inflammatory agent.

Carnosic acid that is good for the brain as mentioned above is good for eye health also. It protects against macular degeneration.
Scientists have found out that herbs like rosemary, oregano and marjoram have compounds in them that help in managing type 2 diabetes in the same way as medicines do. However, the doctor’s advice should be followed.
Rosemary oil treats lots of problems
The oil of rosemary is used externally to treat skin problems like eczema and also joint problems like arthritis. It speeds up the healing process of wounds too when applied directly. The oil when used externally can help provide relief from menstrual cramps.
Good for treating hair loss and dandruff
Hair oils containing rosemary can be a good treatment for dandruff and hair loss. Apply the rosemary infused hair oil on the scalp and hair and leave for an hour. You can wash it away later.
Rosemary works well as a natural mouthwash. You can make this mouth wash at home by adding fresh rosemary to hot water. You can strain it and use it as a mouth wash. It can be kept in the fridge for a few days too.
Breathing in the aroma of the essential oil of rosemary can help in treating the congestion due to allergies, colds, flu and infections of the respiratory tract.
Diuretic in nature
Rosemary is a diuretic (a mild one). It gets rid of bloating, retention of water in the body and improves the functioning of kidneys. Urine flow is increased and the kidneys are able to get rid of excess water.
Anti-aging in nature
Rosemary being anti-aging in nature is a very popular ingredient in anti-aging skin creams. It helps reduce puffiness, increases firmness, stimulates cell regeneration and improves skin tone.
A word of caution
Though rosemary is quite safe, pregnant women should not have it in large amounts. High BP patients also should not take rosemary as it will further increase their BP.
