What You Should Avoid Doing To Your Eyes?

Eyes are precious gifts of God and you shouldn’t be playing around with them. Do take care of your eyes each and every day? No, right? There is a casual and rather ignorant behaviour with them. Do you know that your world will be pitch dark without them? So, if you really care, here are 9 things that you should be doing to your eyes.

1) Reading or working in dim light

Reading a book or working in dim light can result in eye strain. You might land up with spectacles if you continue reading in dim light. You should make sure that you read or work only in areas that are well lit.

2) Staring at the sun directly

Even if you are wearing UV sunglasses, you should never stare at the sun directly. The rays of the sun are very powerful and they can damage the sensitive parts of the retina when exposed to full sunlight. So, please don’t stare at the sun!

3) Wearing contacts and sleeping

You should not sleep in your contact lenses as your eyes require a regular flow of oxygen while you are asleep. There are many brands of contact lenses that you can wear and sleep but it is always good to remove them when you sleep. Moreover, how can you sleep when you have something in your eyes?

4) Wearing contacts and swimming

Unless you wear tight fitting swimming goggles, don’t swim while wearing contact lenses. You see, the swimming pool is a breeding ground for all types of parasites that can cause eye infection and in severe cases can lead to loss of vision.

5) Rubbing your eyes

People usually have the habit of rubbing their eyes often. One thing is that it spoils your eye makeup and affects your beauty 😛 But seriously, rubbing your eyes too hard can break the blood vessels present under the eyelids.

6) Staring for too long at computer screens, phones and tablets

Don’t stare at the computer screen for long hours as it can cause eye strain and even dry eyes. After every 20 minutes of computer use, look at an object 20 feet away for at least 20 secs. This is the 20-20-20 rule for those who spend a lot of time at the laptop or desktop. You should also keep blinking in between.

7) Using unsuitable eye drops

People have this habit of grabbing any old bottle or eye drops form the cabinet and pouring it into the eyes. Please check whether the eye drops can be used or are they expired. It is best to consult your doctor before using eye drops of any kind.

8) Using the same eye makeup for long

You see your eye makeup stuff like mascara, kohl, eye shadow and the like can be contaminated with stuff that affects your eyes. It is best to throw away your eye makeup once in 3 months. It may be difficult to part with your dearies but your eyes should be dearer to you than your makeup stuff!!!

9) Not visiting the doctor when you have eye related problems

Even if something really small is wrong with your eyes, it is very important for you to contact your doctor as soon as you can. Most ailments related to the eye can be treated in the initial stage but at later stages they become hard to treat.
