For decades, bone health has been a matter of concern specifically for children and elderly people. Recent research in this field has, however, untangled this myth. Women in their early thirties have been found to have low bone density. These studies indicate that one out of two women suffers from this condition.

Women face a greater risk of having low bone density because they have a smaller bone structure, therefore less bone mass. Starting from the early thirties, bone density begins to decline among women.This is troublesome because of the future risks involved, as well as the obstacle it can cause to daily lives, particularly for those with active lifestyles.

The causes of lowering bone density are few, and primarily pertain to heredity and lifestyle. Research has shown that genetics plays a crucial role in its onset. With respect to lifestyle, poor diet, smoking, excessive alcohol consumption and inadequate exercise contribute to its occurrence.

Bearing all this in mind, it’s important take preventive action in time. It is rightly said that “prevention is better than cure.” Yoga, Pilates, physical fitness and training successfully increase bone strength, but do not provide the Vitamin D and Calcium required to maintain the mineral content. Low bone density is a condition that cannot be cured; but, precautionary methods go a long way in laying the foundation for healthy bones and overall wellness in the future.
