Yoga Poses For Digestion And Debloating

You had a big meal and ate your heart out. The result? You feel bloated!! What do you do? Pop some pills and hit the sack. Well, there is a natural cure for digestive troubles. If you do just fifteen minutes of yoga, you will feel better.

Here are the yoga asanas that will help you debloat, ease stomach pains and give you a flat tummy!

Apanasana (Knees hugged to chest)

This will help you gain relief from gas pains and bloating.

  • Lie down and relax.
  • Inhale and place your hands on the knees.
  • Exhale and bring your knees to your chest and hug them.
  • Rock your knees from one side to another.
  • Stay for 5 to 10 breaths and then release the knees.
  • Repeat this a few more times.

You can modify this asana by doing one side at a time. You can bring up the right knee and hold it for 5 or more breaths. After that you can switch sides.

Spinal twist

This twist pose is meant to soothe and tone the abdomen.

  • Lie down and hug the knees. Inhale.
  • While exhaling drop your knees to the left side gently with your left hand.
  • Turning your head, stretch your arm out towards the right.
  • Hold for 5 to 10 breaths.
  • Inhale and bring your hands and knees to the centre.
  • Repeat the same on the other side.

Setu Bandha Sarvangasana (Bridge pose)

This enhances blood flow and energizes you.

  • Lie down and bend the knees
  • Keep the arms on the sides of the body with your feet flat on the floor.
  • Give your chest a good stretch by moving your hips up.

You can also modify this asana by pressing one hip up and holding the pose for 5 breaths before switching to the other side.

One-legged seated spinal twist

  • Sit down with your legs extended.
  • Bend your right knee and place the heel close to yourself.
  • Bring the right arm behind you, placing the palm on the floor.
  • The left elbow needs to go on the outside of your right knee to enable you to twist.
  • Hold for 5 or more breaths stretching more each time you exhale.
  • Release the twist and switch sides.

Paschimottanasana (Seated Forward Bend Pose)

  • Sit down with the legs in front of you.
  • Making sure that your back is straight, slowly bend forward and lower your upper body.
  • Hold for 5 to 10 deep breaths.

  • Sit down on the heels and lean back with your palms around 8 inches behind you and fingertips pointing away from you.
  • Pressing your hands into the floor, lift the chest and bend your back. Your hips should push into your heels.
  • Lower your head behind and increase the stretch.
  • You should be feeling the stretch in your chest and throat.
  • Hold for 5 breaths.

The transition between these 2 poses warms up your spine and relieves the tension in your neck and back.

  • Get on knees and hands on the floor.
  • Inhale and make sure that your back is flat and the abs are engaged.
  • On exhaling, drop the head and round up your spine to do the cat pose.
  • While inhaling, arch your back and lift your head as well as butt for the cow pose.
  • Keep switching between the two poses; inhale during the cow pose and exhale while doing the cat pose.
  • Repeat a few times.

Balasana (Child’s pose)

  • Sit on your knees and feet and keep your legs wide apart.
  • Bend forward while stretching your arms in front.
  • Keeping the back straight, place your forehead on the ground.

Adho Mukha Savanasana (Downward facing dog)

  • Stand while keeping a hip-width gap between your feet.
  • With a straight back, bend forward and press your palms to the ground.
  • Hold for 5 to 10 breaths

  • Bend forward from your waist
  • Keeping your back straight, touch the floor
  • Stand on the mat and take a huge step back using your right foot. It should be turned towards the side of the mat.
  • Spread your arms out.
  • Hinge forward at the hip.
  • Float the left hand down to the ground.
  • Raising the right arm, keep your arms spread out.
  • Look towards your right hand.
  • To come back to the starting position, look down at your left foot and straighten yourself up.
  • Repeat the same on the other side.

Trikonasana (Open triangle pose)

  • Stand on the mat and take a huge step back using your right foot. It should be turned towards the side of the mat.
  • Spread your arms out.
  • Hinge forward at the hip.
  • Float the left hand down to the ground.
  • Raising the right arm, keep your arms spread out.
  • Look towards your right hand.
  • To come back to the starting position, look down at your left foot and straighten yourself up.

Repeat the same on the other side.

Utkatasana (Chair pose)

The chair pose helps in opening up your chest and toning your legs

  • Stand with the feet together
  • Bend the knees as if you are sitting in a chair.
  • Raise your arms up beside the ears.
  • To go back to the starting position, straighten your arms on exhaling.
  • Rise to a standing position and bring back your arms to the sides.

Pranayama

Pranayama is the best way to finish your yoga practice. It will give final healing to one’s digestive system.

You just have to inhale and exhale deeply while focusing on your breath.
