It is important for you to look good from within as well as have a glowing skin externally. Naturally glowing skin is the sign of good health. Haven’t you heard people saying ‘I am in the pink of health’? Your cheeks turn to a pinker shade as a sign of good health.
Here is a list of five foods that have a two in one effect. They are packed with fibre, healthy fats, lean proteins that make you feel full on a fewer calories. This keeps the weight in check. Presence of antioxidants and other compounds help in giving great external looks.
1) Green beans
Green beans are a high fibre food. This easily available veggie can help in preventing weight gain and can also promote weight loss. And you need not diet too!! This is what the new research has to say. They found that women who happened to increase their fibre intake lost weight whereas women who reduced their fibre intake gained weight.
The researchers have brought their study down to fit a nut shell and the weight loss formula is as follows:
By boosting 8 g of fibre for every 1,000 calories consumed resulted in the loss of 4 ½ pounds .
If you happen to be consuming 2,000 calories per day, your fibre intake should increase by 16 g. Eating raspberries, strawberries or chickpeas will also help you in getting your fibre.
Oily fish like salmon and tuna have omega-3 fatty acids. They can help protect your skin against UV damage. In one particular study, researchers have found that people who ate more than 140 g (5 ounces) of fish rich in omega 3 each week, reduced the development of skin lesions (precancerous) by about 30 percent. According to scientists, omega 3 acts as a shield in protecting cells from damage caused by free radicals.
According to a study done recently by the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, consuming just one cup of mixed berries like red raspberries, blueberries and strawberries everyday for 8 weeks resulted in increase of the levels of good cholesterol (HDL) and lowered blood pressure. Both the effects are positive for heart health. Berries have health promoting plant compounds (polyphenols) that are most likely to be responsible for this effect.
Studies show that consuming foods that have a lot of water content like watermelon help in keeping a person satisfied on lesser amount of calories. (You won’t get the same effect if you consume lots of water with ordinary food.)Watermelon has 92 % water and it is a good source of vitamin C. It contains lycopene (the reason for its redness)which is an antioxidant that helps in protecting against heart disease and certain types of cancer. There are other foods with high water content too, like cucumber 95%, strawberries 91%.
Tomatoes are rich in vitamin C and so are oranges, broccoli and strawberries! They can help in giving you a smoother skin. Youthful skin is linked with consuming vitamin C rich foods. Consuming foods rich in vitamin C is associated with lesser chances of having age –related dryness and wrinkled skin in middle-age women. This effect of vitamin C may be due to its antioxidant nature that helps in protecting the skin from UV rays and keeps skin firm.
