7 Foods that Sound Healthy But Are Not
Hello People,
All of us are waiting for the lockdown to end soon. Many of us are craving for our favorite foods. Some of us are already experimenting with food sitting at home. If you are one of those, then you must go through our list of 7 Foods that Sound Healthy, But Are Not.
I am going to list the food items that can be termed as “healthy” but are nothing but cheap marketing gimmicks to fool innocent people like us! People spend more on these food items thinking to take better care of themselves. The truth is that we fall prey to these and instead of becoming healthier, we take a toll on our health unknowingly. So, I am going to write my heart out as is!
So here you go –
Multi-Grain and Wheat Breads
Multigrain bread or wheat bread or oat bread or brown bread sounds nice. Warning – these may NOT contain whole grains. Next time when you buy bread, read the nutrition label. If you see that the bread contains flour which is refined or bleached, drop it there! This is not 100% whole grain bread.
Nutrition Bars
All kinds of energy bars or fiber bars or protein bars can never be really healthy. They might have protein or fiber-like they promise, but with a lot of unwanted ingredients as well. Energy bars, known to be the best pre-workout meal – it is a LIE. They are usually full of added sugar and high fructose corn syrup. If you want fiber, have a green apple; it is a better bet if you wish to fit into your college jeans.
Frozen or flavored Yogurt
I have eaten frozen yogurt a lot of times thinking it’s much better than eating an ice-cream. I wish I knew that these awesomely looking yogurts are full of added sugar.
Flavored yogurt does NOT contain fruit. These have fruit pulp/syrup and added sugar. Do you remember sugar is evil? Don’t you?
Fat-free foods
Anything which says “Fat-free” is a NO-NO. ‘Fat-free’ does NOT mean ‘calorie-free’. It simply means that healthy fats are replaced with evil sugar and you are eating high calories!
Soy Products
Tofu and Soy milk are considered as healthy. Organic fermented soy products might be okay. The ones that we usually see in supermarkets are processed and are in no way healthy. Many studies relate soy to a lot of diseases.
Fruit Juice – Packed or Fresh
Fruit juice is a LIAR (read Sugar). When you remove fiber from a fruit, only sugar remains. The packaged fruit juice, even if they are labeled as “no added sugar” are the worst of all!
Subway
This one is my favorite (Read I hate it ). It costs more than a healthy meal and all we get is JUNK. How can Subway call itself as healthy? For Christ’s sake, you serve processed meat, sugary sauces, junk cookies, and soft drinks! How can you do this to people? Check this ingredient list here. This is from Subway’s Australian outlet but Subway is standardized, same across the globe. Check the nutrition information in the below pic from Subway’s Indian website.
Whopping carbs and calories! N please stop saying Fat-free!
So folks, which food item surprised you the most? If you know more food items that sound healthy but are cheats as the ones above, please let us know by dropping your comments!

I follow everything and for subway i just take the salad without any bread ofcourse…with mustard sauce and a tsp of mayo..lots of salt and pepper..much better an option if i compare it with other choices available around.
Yes Ana, salad wid least sauces is the way to go ! Unfortunately , my friends are fond of soy and fruit juices , thinking they are eating healthy 🙁
Atleast better than coke and pepsi 😛
Yeah. In restaurants, if i need to have a drink , i order diet coke/pepsi if they can’t give me lime water ! Generally lime water is available :).
You have written very well.
A real eye operner….
Am into most of these…. including olive oil….
Thanx….
Going to think of ways to get out….. if possible please help with other healthy options… even brand names would help….
Dee , thanks 🙂 . olive oil is healthy but not at high temperature. You can use it to toss your salad. For cooking, coconut oil is good.
Did you mean healthy options for eating out ?
I love subway , even though I know all the “healthy” and “fatfree” is a gimmick ,
I dont have anything else among the listed ones .
have never tried flavored yoghurt , instead just add some muesli and fruits ( especially strawberries in winter ) to yoghurt , it is so yumm !!
Yep. Just try having unsweetened yoghurt n add fruits to it 🙂
I just eat salad at subway with minimum sauces.
Haaaaaawwweewe I love yogurtberry and subway sooooo much…..I can certainly live without rest
Hey Shilpa, you know what’s best for you. N looking at you, i don’t think you need to shed weight 😛
Nice post Tarun, another food that sound healthy but is not – nutralite butter coz of loads of transfat in it…which is very harmful for health….
Here’s the link…a good read….
http://www.medimanage.com/my-diet/articles/nutralite-butter-se-better-ya-nahin.aspx
Thanks Anju. You are right, transfat and MSG are harmful. Go for full fat butter 🙂
Multigrain & brown breag included….. shocking for me.Will surely check before picking them blindly. Thanks for sharing
oops i meant bread 🙂
You are welcome Kavita. Whole wheat grain bread is okay but is normally not seen on small kiryana shops.
Sometimes when i wish to have a salad sandwich, i pick up whole wheat bread n it costs about Rs 50.
Hi Tarun….
I meant healthy replacement options for ppl (like me) who are already hung up on these things….
Also coconut oil for coking…. is there any variations…. I saw 2,3 different varieties in the supermarket…. anything specific…
thnx for the help….
Hey Dee, you are always welcome. This is a platform to discuss, no thanks needed 🙂
Use oil as natural as you can. If u get pure coconut oil , could be an organic one, go for it Just check nutrition label, least processed is the best bet !
Why don’t you use pure desi ghee , homemade one ? Just 1 spoon ghee and use it for your curries. I am gonna stock up desi ghee from my native.
Hope that helps !
Dee, give me a day or two , i will do a post on cooking oil 🙂
Calories are fuel for our body so we should not try to educe them as muct as possible.. will just end up feeling cranky and craving food. I feel subway is one of the healthiest eating out options, provided you chose wheat/ multigrain bread, only low fat sauces that too in small amounts and the fresher options like veggie delight instead of veg patties or corn or peas sandwiches. And do not order any cold drinks to go with your meal… they sell water at MRP, buy that! Ofcourse.. no cookies and lays, too.
Our body needs around 1500-2000 calories a day so its quite okay to have a 500 cal sandwich for a meal if that’s all you are gonna have!
Vani , all calories are not same. Read here – http://fitnessvsweightloss.com/a-calorie-is-a-calorie-really/
There is a difference if you have 1500 calories from a sandwich or from fruits or veggies.
Subway’s wheat bread contains sugar. I have given the ingredients list in the post !
The veggie delight salad is absolutely yummy and totally filling… with such crisp and fresh veggies, just order it with just a lacing of any of the low fat sauces they have.
Also you can order the sw without cheese!
Cheese is good for us , it has protein. Low fat sauces are not good since they might have added sugar. n Sugar is not good for us http://fitnessvsweightloss.com/why-sugar-is-an-evil/
Hope that helps 🙂
okay… will read those 2 articles for a better understanding. thanks!
You’re welcome 🙂
