Aamir Khan- The Latest Vegan In Bollywood!
Some hot celebrity news for you! According to recent reports, Aamir Khan has turned a vegan! The Mr. Perfectionist of Bollywood has begun a new journey as a vegan! In an interview he revealed that the sudden decision of giving up dairy products and non-veg came up when he watched a video on Youtube.
His wife Kiran Rao has herself been a vegan for a long while and she had asked Aamir to see the video. The video shows how 15 most common illnesses can be prevented by diet. the video was able to convince Aamir that vegans had an upper hand when compared to non-vegetarians and vegetarians. He also said that by turning a into a vegan he will able to do justice to a role in a movie in which his character is a vegetarian.
If you don’t know about veganism let me tell you that vegans are those who do not eat dairy products or anything else of animal origin. Aamir says that currently he misses curd but he is still enjoying his new lifestyle. Now Aamir is one among the handful of actors who have turned vegan in Bollywood. There will be a lot of other actors who will emulate Aamir’s footsteps and soon this will turn into a trend in tinsel town! But the question here is whether going vegan is really healthy or not? Let us discuss a bit!
You might think that eliminating dairy and meat from your diet is easy but do you know doing so will rob you of omega 3 fatty acids and vitamin B12. Both nutrients are not synthesized by the body and you need to provide them to your body from natural food sources. Vitamin B12 deficiency can lead to anemia, heart disease, nerve damage and complications for pregnant women.
Does this mean that a vegan diet bad for health?
Actually no! Vegan diet enhances health. A vegan diet is rich in vitamins, minerals and fibre; low in cholesterol that helps in warding off high cholesterol, heart attacks and high blood pressure. A vegan diet can actually prolong the degenerative (and irritating 😉 ) process of ageing. The diet will also make a person feel light and energetic as it is a plant based diet, without any cholesterol. Plants also provide phytonutrients that improves immune response.
Like I mentioned above that there will be a lack of vitamin B 12 and omega 3 fatty acids in the body when on this diet but that can be met by taking supplements. Omega 3 can also be obtained by consuming flax seeds.
Can dairy and meat products be substituted?
Dairy products and meat have protein and calcium to offer to our body. So, how to get these? Well, you can get your calcium and protein intake from vegan sources such as soya beans, soya milk. Lentils, chickpeas, kidney beans (Rajma), sprouts, tofu, walnuts and peas. You can add oats, almond, coconut, rice and sesame to your diet too! If you happen to miss paneer let me tell you on a personal note that tofu tastes just as good! You won’t miss paneer too much!
So, that is all folks! Aamir has turned vegan! Are you too planning to turn vegan?
