If you are new to the world of diets and fitness let me tell you that a low carb and high protein diet is much in vogue these days as many people have shed kilos with the help of this diet.
At the end of the day, whatever diet you choose, it should suit you well. Some experts like Rujuta Diwekar don’t endorse a low carb diet. She wants people to have a balanced diet, consume more local food, make lifestyle changes like getting up early, avoiding tea as soon as you wake etc. People following her diet are also losing weight. The point here is that what works for one may not work for another person. Low carb high protein diets may seem impossible to follow for a few people whereas others will find it apt for them.
Personally, I believe in a low carb high protein diet as it works well for me. Let us see what a low carb high protein diet is all about.
The list of don’ts is long in this diet. You can’t eat roti, parantha, bread, momos, rava, potatoes, burgers and pizzas! Sounds pretty difficult, doesn’t it? One thing has to be kept in mind before you start out this diet. It is expensive. Eating non-veg, cheese and nuts can increase your grocery bill! But if it suits you well and helps you shed kilos, you are actually saving the money you need to otherwise spend on treating illnesses that spring up due to being overweight.
A low carb diet doesn’t involve counting calories. What a relief! Otherwise you will spend the most of your day counting calories :P. Low carb high protein food is delicious as you get the green signal to add butter to it!

I eat eggs everyday in different ways! You see, in most of the high protein diets, one should eat eggs along with the yolk. This is advantageous as there are a lot of essential nutrients in the yolk of the egg. It will keep you full for longer too! One egg has 6 grams of protein to offer and the best part about them is that they are affordable 😀 You can opt for organic eggs if possible! I am totally in love with cheese. Though dairy has high carbs, the fermentation process of cheese cuts down the carb content and makes it suitable for low carbers. The best cheese is Parmesan cheese as it offers 10 g of protein per ounce. I enjoy eating processed cheese slices and cubes. You can snack on cheese whenever you are hungry. You can add it to your meal too.
You see I am on a vegetarian low carb high protein diet. So, there is no non-veg in my food but generally on this diet people have a variety of non-veg foods to choose from. You can have chicken, turkey, fishes like salmon and tuna, shrimp. You can enjoy grilled chicken, butter chicken and chicken masala. Nuts like almond, walnuts and pistachio have lots of proteins and also contain omega- 3. You can snack on them or add them to your salads. Nuts have a lot of health benefits to offer. They provide you with vitamins and minerals that the body needs to function properly.
Paneer and tofu
Paneer is a staple when it comes to north Indian cuisine. Up north, no party is ever hosted without paneer in the main course or in the starters. You can enjoy various paneer dishes or have it grilled. You can have tofu too. Tofu can be used just like how paneer is used. Though paneer is more widely available than tofu, you can add the latter to bring some variety to your food.
You can also enjoy kidney beans (rajma), full fat milk, chickpeas and of course curd! Peanut butter in moderation is also allowed. Talking about seeds, sunflower seeds, flax seeds and pumpkin seeds can be consumed.
Coffee with full fat milk is allowed but you shouldn’t add sugar. Use stevia instead.

It is important to consume fat in this diet. So, ghee and butter should be added to your food. It will make your food quite flavourful too! Sugar is a strict no-no in this diet. You can have dark chocolates with 70% cocoa though!
Low carb high fat diet is more like a lifestyle change rather than a diet. If you stop it your lost weight will come back. So, you need to accept it as a lifestyle change.
