It says that most bread manufacturing Indian companies are adding potassium bromate or potassium iodate that can adversely affect health and lead to cancer. With the study, famous brands like Britannia, Harvest Gold, Perfect Bread, buns and pizza crusts from fast food restaurants like McDonald’s, KFC and Domino’s are under scrutiny. The air has been cleared by the head of Auriga Research Limited laboratories, Dr.Saurabh Arora. He says that so far bromate was a permitted ingredient in bread manufacture but the use of this chemical has recently been banned in water. This is something that has to be considered. Bread samples were tested and what has been discovered is that the amount of bromate in bread is under permissible limits. On top of that you would need to consume half a kilo of bread to feel the dangerous effects of the chemicals. Thus, bread is rendered completely safe for consumption. He says that there is a need to conduct more studies and carry out scientific to gather more information about bromate.
According to a dietician, bread has nutritional value in it that can’t be ignored. Breads have yeast in them which is a source of vitamin B12 and certain probiotics. You can easily indulge in bread occasionally! Just have lots of veggies so that the fibre helps in digestion of food and slows down the release of sugar. It is essential that you go in for multi-grain bread or else bread can be unhealthy. Also buy from a trusted brand or bakery so that you are sure of the ingredients going into it. Buy oats, rye and ragi breads are healthy options. White bread is made out of maida and colour. It raises blood sugar and leads to obesity.
