Hello All!!!!

Always on a look out for a diet plan that helps you lose weight? While searching for simple meal plans that help promote weight loss, you must come across the concept of eliminating specific food groups or foods. It is believed that certain foods can hinder your weight loss journey. Bananas are one such food but let me tell you that they aren’t the culprit behind unwanted weight gain. A banana is a natural source of essential nutrients and is a low calorie food that can be easily included in a weight management plan. Also, they are easy to carry around and quite filling.

How nutritious is it?

A medium sized banana is fat-free and has 110 calories to offer. It is also a rich source of essential nutrients. Banana provides 450 mg of potassium, 3 g of fibre, 1 g of protein and vitamin C. Yes, it has carbs, about 30 g in a medium sized banana, 8 g come from starch, 19 g from sugars and the rest of it from fibre.

In spite of being fat free, it does have a high sugar content. It has 76 calories from sugar which is 69 percent of the total energy present in a medium sized banana. Just like carbs, natural sugars are broken down into glucose. Once the glucose meets your energy needs, you body begins storing the excess glucose in the form of glycogen in the liver and skeletal muscles. This stored glycogen can be used later to meet energy needs. If your glycogen storing capacity is exceeded, the rest gets stored as fat. But generally, excess calories from any food source can lead t increased storage of fat. Even though it has sugar in it, bananas are a better option when compared to cookies and processed stuff. So, when you get the urge to eat something sweet, grab a banana as it has nutrients as well as fibre that have an essential role to play in a healthy diet.
