Fish Recipe-Mackerel In Raw Mango And Garlic Pepper Sauce

Bengalis are known for their love for fish, But I didn’t like fish much,despite me being a Bengali. It was only in my college days when I started liking fish. For studies I have to live away from home in hostel and the terrible place and the terrible food here made me pine for the foods I used to have at home. I live in a rented house here, the “good food deprived” me planned to make my own dishes. But the place where I live doesn’t even have a good market where I can get the ingredients I want. 🙁

And since I was missing a good fish dish so thought of sharing a fish recipe with you all. This dish is medium spicy, low in carbohydrate and has high nutritional values. 🙂

I have used Mackerel Fish here, which are rich in omega-3 to ward off heart diseases. These are low in sodium, a good source of Vitamin B6 and Phosphorus, Protein, Vitamin B12 and Selenium.
You can use any fish of your choice.

Why in Raw mango and garlic-pepper sauce??

Garlic-pepper is an internally loved flavour and raw mango is the flavour of season in India. Thought of merging them together.
Moreover, raw mango is very low in saturated fat, cholesterol and sodium. It is also a good source Vitamin B6, Vitamin A and Vitamin C.

Ingredients:-

  • Mackerel fish, gutted and washed properly.
  • Baby onions.
  • Baby tomatoes (I didn’t get baby tomatoes, thus used normal tomatoes instead)Any other veggies of your choice (optional)
  • A few raw mango slices.
  • Few bulbs of garlic. Make sure they are fresh. (For this particular dish, I prefer them whole, but you can use chopped garlic as well)
  • Unevenly grounded Pepper (You can ground them finely as well. As per your choice)
  • Chilli flakes.
  • Salt to taste.
  • Pinch of turmeric.
  • Lemon juice.

Method:-

  • Marinate the fish with salt and turmeric and keep it aside for half an hour. You can skip the turmeric, I added it because turmeric helps in reducing the seafood stickiness to an extent. After that heat a spoon of butter in the pan and add the fishes. Sprinkle grounded pepper and chilli flakes over them and fry until they are done. Take the fish off the flame and place them on the serving plate.

  • Add the garlic, raw mango slices, baby onions, sliced tomatoes, other veggies (if u want any) and green chillies, fry them till they are softened and the onions start to lose their opacity and become translucent. After that take everything out leaving cloves and the mango slices on the pan. Serve the veggies on the plate containing the fish.

  1. Add a pinch of salt and lemon juice, a little water to the pan with fried cloves and mango slices. Bring the contents of the pan to boil, lastly empty the pan juices to the fish and you are done.
