Various types of foot pain and

how to handle them

Gratitude is an essential component of any human’s lifetime. Yet, unfortunately, we forget to pay our appreciation for one of the most critical things in life: our feet. Our feet allow us to travel, and god knows how much we want to do that during COVID Lockdown.

We all remember the times when our feet hurt, and well, for those times, does this article exist, which talks about how we can relieve pressure from our feet. As it is more important to know the source of the trouble to arrive at a solution, let us see the different types of pain.

  1. Heel Pain:

If your pain is in your heel, you’ll have plantar fasciitis. That’s an irritation or inflammation of the tight tissue band connecting the heel bone to the toes. Usually, it hurts the worst within the morning when you’re getting out of bed.

Treating Heel troubles:

  • Rest your foot.

  • Do heel, and foot muscle stretches.

  • Take over-the-counter pain relievers.

  • Wear shoes with excellent support and a cushioned sole.

 

  1. Heel Spurs

Often observed as abnormal growths of bone on the underside of your heel, you can get these spurs from wearing wrong shoes and walking with a bad posture. You may also observe pain while you are walking or running. It is more commonly observed with flat-arched people.

Treating Heel Spurs:

  • Use heel pads to ease the pain

  • Orthotic or custom made insert can be used within the shoe

  • Take over-the-counter pain relievers.

  • Rest your foot.

  • Try physiotherapy.

  • If you continue to have pain, ask your doctor about medical procedures.

  1. Stone Bruise

A bruise may be a deep bruise of the fat pad of the heel or ball of the foot. It’s often from an impression injury, but it also can happen after stepping on a tough object. The pain seems like you’re walking on a pebble. It should gradually go away on its own.

In the meantime, you can:

  • Rest your foot.

  • Ice the world.

  • Take over-the-counter pain relievers.

  1. Heel fracture

A fracture of this kind is typically a high-impact injury like a fall or car accident. The most commonly observed symptoms are bruising, heel pain, swelling, or trouble in walking.

 Treating Heel fracture

  • Don’t put pressure on the heel, use crutches.

  • Protect the heel with pads.

  • Wear a splint or cast to guard the heel bone.

  • Apply OTC pain relievers post taking approval from your doctor.

  • Try physiotherapy.

  1. Morton’s neuroma 

This type causes a thickening of tissue around the nerves between the bases of the toes. It is usually observed between the third and fourth toes. You sometimes feel pain, odd sensations, or numbness over the ball of your foot. Women have it more often. It is usually a result of wearing high heels or tight shoes.

 Treating Morton’s Neuroma:

  • Wear shoe inserts to reduce the pressure on the nerves

  • Apply OTC pain relievers.

  • Avoid wearing high-heeled footwear or ones with a narrow toe design

  • Consult with your doctor for surgery.
