Top Fruits And Veggies With High Water Content

Hello All!!!!

Summers are very much here and this means that you must keep yourself well hydrated especially when you are heading outdoors in the heat.

Do you know that the human body is made up of 60 to 70% of water? However, you are constantly losing water through sweat, urine and breathing. Studies show that athletes can lose up to 2 quarts of water in one hour. The golden rule of drinking eight glasses water every day may be good but a better guideline would be to drink enough liquid and have liquid containing foods that make you visit the washroom every 2 to 4 hours. Another thing to make note of is that you shouldn’t wait till you are thirsty. The body can hide signs of mild dehydration and by the time you feel thirsty, you will already be dehydrated.

Are you heading to drink a glass of water? Wait! A study conducted in 2009 by University of Aberdeen Medical School showed that eating fruits and veggies rich in water after a workout re-hydrated the body better than water or sports drinks. Such fruits and veggies may be twice effective as water because they contain vitamins, minerals and natural sugars as well. Ordinary water does not contain electrolytes like potassium, sodium, magnesium and calcium. You lose there electrolytes when you sweat, which is another valid reason to go in for water rich fruits and veggies. On an average an individual gets about 20% of their water from food. You can get even more water to remain hydrated by choosing fruits and veggies with a high water content. Such fruits and veggies provide you with volume but lesser calories. This means that you can eat these foods happily without worrying about the calories! So without much ado shall we jump onto the list of such fruits and veggies?

The much in demand summer fruit, watermelon is 92% water. A 2009 study says that it is the best fruit for rehydrating the body.
