Result obtained after 5 weeks suggested that glucomannans did actually work and had caused modest weight loss in individuals who had regularly ingested the capsule before a meal. They did this by creating a feeling of fullness which reduced the energy intake.
Other Health Benefits of ingesting glucomannans includes lowering of blood cholesterol and reducing the risk of developing heart diseases and Type-2 Diabetes.
It has also treated constipation successfully owing to its property to be a water soluble fiber.
Recommended dosage of Glucomannan is lower as compared to other fiber supplements as it can absorb up to 50 times its weight when coming in contact with water. One should remember that glucomannan is of no use in losing weight if it isn’t taken before a meal. It is normally recommended that it should be ingested about 15 minutes to 1 hour before meal. Glucomannan is well tolerated and is generally considered safe.
However, glucomannan can cause choking of the throat if it expands before reaching the stomach. To prevent this, one should wash it down with about 1-2 glasses of water. Some people may experience mild effects such as diarrhea or bloating but this is usually uncommon. In general, glucomannan is well tolerated and generally considered safe.
