Ingredients For A Gut Friendly Smoothie
Hello All!!!
Do you do something extra to maintain your gut health? If not, you should attempt to enhance gut health as it is very important. Here is a simple way to begin; add the following ingredients to your smoothie and see the difference!
How to enjoy a gut friendly smoothie?
1) MCT oil
MCT (medium-chain triglyceride) oil belongs to the healthy fat family and is known to fight yeast and bacteria in the digestive tract. It is an odourless, translucent oil that is extracted from coconuts and contains caprylic and lauric acids. Both the acids are antimicrobial and antibacterial in nature. However, this is not the sole reason why you need to add it to your smoothie. MCT offers a range of positive health benefits like increase in energy, appetite and weight control. So, do add it to your smoothie!
2) Yogurt
There are some little fellas living inside us. I am talking about the microbes. You would be surprised to know that there are 10 times more microbes than human cells in the body. This community living in your gut and all over the body is called the human microbiome. It is closely linked to our health and wellness. To keep the human microbiome intact you need to consume probiotics. So, add in some yogurt to your smoothie.
3) Turmeric
Turmeric has curcumin in it. This active ingredient has antioxidant, antibacterial, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, anticancer and antifungal properties. On top of it all, it can help you lose weight too. Need any more reasons to add turmeric to your glass of smoothie?
4) Ginger
Good old ginger! It is a great digestive aid that helps in soothing the digestive system, relaxing colon muscles and relieving gas and bloating. It is also anti-inflammatory in nature. You can add fresh ginger juice or ginger paste to your smoothie. It will add a zing to its flavour too!
5) Herbs
Adding fresh herbs to your smoothie will not only add flavour but also support the natural detoxification of the body. You can add coriander, parsley, basil (tulsi) and blend it into your smoothie. Coriander helps remove heavy metals from the system and brings down toxins in cells. Basil fights infections, viruses, and inflammation. Parsley is a string liver detoxifier. I guess you would definitely add in herbs to your smoothie now!
6) Peppermint leaves
Peppermint has oils that help stimulate the gallbladder in releasing bile that is used for digestion of fats and for relieving spasms in the GI tract. It helps passing out the gas and subsides bloating. You can steep mint leaves and store them I the fridge to cool down. Use it as the base of your smoothie instead of milk or water. It will be a refreshing change!
7) Apple cider vinegar
Apple cider vinegar is a great liver and lymphatic tonic that helps in the detoxification of the body. It balances the pH level of the body and helps in stimulating cardiovascular function. You can add a bit of this vinegar to your green smoothie. It balances out flavours well!
