Herbal Teas To Treat Various Ailments
Since time immemorial people have sought refuge in herbs and spices to treat ailments. You can always include herbs and spices in your diet and enjoy the health benefits they have to offer. Consuming them in the form of a tea is also a great idea. Check out the various herbal teas!
1) Ginger tea
Ginger is a common ingredient in Indian cuisine. It brings a zing factor to the dish, but it is not just about flavour. It is used to treat nausea, arthritis and diarrhea. Ginger also helps in energizing the mind and body. You can make ginger tea at home from fresh ginger root. Just peel the ginger root and slice it thin. Add water and boil it in a saucepan. Allow it to simmer for a while. Before pouring it out in a cup, let it sit for at least 5 minutes.
2) Turmeric tea
Turmeric has been around for thousands of years now and is known to be effective in treating issues due to inflammation such as digestive troubles, arthritis and breathing problems. It has antioxidant properties that fight the damage caused by free radicals and brings out a healthy glow. Still doubt Dadi’s ‘Haldi wala doodh’?
The active compound in turmeric is curcumin and a lot of research has been done to know about the health benefits it has to offer. Just like ginger, turmeric is a staple in the Indian kitchen. It is added to almost every Indian dish. However, you can make a healthy turmeric tea too. Add turmeric to boiling water and allow it to simmer it for 10 minutes. You can also add ginger powder and pepper to the tea if you like. Strain the tea and squeeze in some lemon and honey for flavour.
3) Cardamom tea
Cardamom helps in soothing digestive issues such as constipation, gas and Irritable Bowel Syndrome. You can add cardamom pods to the boiling water while making regular Chai (Indian Tea). It really works.
4) Rose tea
May sound intriguing and it is! Rose has a calming effect on the mind and soothes the nerves. Rose essence is added to foods and we have our very own gulkand (rose petal jam) that is good for digestion. Now for rose tea, you can ransack your nearest supermarket for rose tea bags or buy them online. If you want to make your own tea from fresh rose petals, you can! Get 1-2 cups of organic rose petals. Thoroughly wash the petals and place them in a vessel with 3 cups of water to boil. Do so for 5 minutes and then strain the tea out. Add honey to sweeten it.
Matcha is a traditional Japanese tea. You use ground green tea leaves for it and the benefits are plenty. This concentrated form of green tea protects from diseases and provides a healthy metabolism. It also helps in boosting concentration and focus. It is easy to make. Sift a spoon or two of matcha powder into a cup with the help of a sifter. Add in hot water and whisk it to make it frothy.
