High Dose Of MSG,Lead In Maggi-Is The News Shocking?
All leading websites like IndiaTimes, Scoopwhoop, Times of India are publishing the same news today. High levels of lead and MSG has been fond in India’s favourite comfort food – 2 minutes noodles “Maggi”.
Facebook is flooded by shares , people are sharing as if they thought Maggi is the healthiest food ever and their trust has been broken.
According to Times of India, FSDA Assistant Commissioner- Mr. Vijay Bahadur Yadav stated –
“We have tested Maggi samples at Kolkata’s referral laboratory. The test results show that there are added monosodium glutamate and excess of lead. We have ordered further sampling”
According to Mr. Yadav, the test results showed that Maggi contains 17 parts per million lead, whereas the permissible limit is 0.01 ppm.
However, this revelation is surprising for the company-Nestle that manufactures Maggi. As per Nestle, they do not add monosodium glutamate to the product.
A Nestle spokesperson stated –
“We do not add MSG to MAGGI Noodles and glutamate, if present, may come from naturally occurring sources. Food regulators in India also do not specify any limit for the presence of MSG/Glutamate”
Nestle confirms that its records show lead content is negligible and less than the permissible limit of 1 % .
I am just pondering if this news is really shocking? If you read labels – you would easily spot MSG on your favorite Maggi pack where nutritional information is given. The quantity of MSG could seem negligible to you or may be you trust Nestle a lot. You got to be kidding me! How much do you trust our own people?
India is one country where almost all foods are adulterated. We all know that and its sad that we still ignore the fact that we don’t get to eat healthy. Yes, we don’t eat healthy! Does not matter how much we pay for organic food or local food considered best for our health. In our grandparents words – “aajkal har cheez mein milaawat hai”.
We have written a lot of related posts like dangerous effects of MSG on body, how oats maggi is not as healthy as promoted on Television. I am not sure why so much hoo haa on this news when we already know that Maggi is not a “natural” food. Its made in factories. Yes, I understand that the regulations are in place to govern the amount of chemicals we eat but hell they are chemicals !!!
What’s the need to eat them? If you do eat them, why eat them often?
