How to Live Drug Free?
Our brain is really good at playing tricks especially on varying moods. Not only brain even we can play tricks on it the same way. Almost all types of mind altering ingredients are similar to the brain chemicals which effect by mimicking, blocking or enhancing. This simply means we should get natural highs without depending on artificial and harmful chemicals or drugs.
A substance like Valium enhances the neurotransmitter GABA in the brain and few anti-depressants like SSRIs and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors make the brain do things it does already in different proportions.
Many herbs also do the same thing such as St. John’s Wort and Kava Kava which are well known for great effects on mood and stress levels. Even lemon balm, chamomile, valerian, skullcap, peppermint, etc. help in calming down and balancing effects on brain.
Running and Exercising
While running and exercising, endorphins are produced which have chemical effects over the brain. These are groups of peptides which interact with opiate receptors and as a result they reduce perception of stress and pain just the same way as the chemicals do. The difference is that they do the work naturally and aren’t addictive at all. With increase in endorphin levels, your happiness levels and relaxation also increases.
Chocolates
It’s a very well-known fact that chocolates make us happy due to the presence of few substances in them which trigger the release of endorphins in our body.
Donations
Being generous, spending time with friends, donating time and money to any organization also make us happier than spending on material things. The point here is that when you spend on lunch with your friends, it’ll leave you with many memories which will last long for years but if you spend on a pair of jeans, you don’t feel anything much special to stay happy for longer.
Proper Diet
Eat carbs. Yes, they will make tryptophan move to your brain with tryptophan, an amino acid to make up serotonin which is a neurotransmitter associated with your mood. If your body lacks carbs, tryptophan gets trapped and doesn’t move towards the brain and so, will your mood.
Fruits such as bananas, papayas, pineapples, strawberries, mangoes, guavas, peaches, apricots, dates, apples, etc. fight depression. Omega 3’s which aren’t from fish oil are great in combating depression.
Herbs
A single Potentilla leaf if consumed regularly for few weeks or months, you can notice great difference. You’ll enjoy long lasting happiness and no more fleeting sense of euphoria. Pulsatilla leaf is yet another option for the same effects.
Massage
Body massages, acupuncture, meditation all have great effects over your mind. Regular meditation has long lasting positive effects. All of them boost secretion of endorphins greatly.

Show gratitude and improve your mood. If you are able to recognize others’ helping nature, you’ll be happy since you’ll remember those moments for years and appreciate them always. Moreover you’ll feel better by not taking advantage of their favors. And everyone loves to hear a thank you from you as well. Make others happy and be happy.
