Infrared Sauna – Is It Effective?
Infrared sauna is the latest wellness trend that people worldwide are going gaga over! It appears that almost every sun-starved individual is increasing his or her serotonin, dopamine and oxytocin (feel good hormones) levels by spending an hour a week in the rooms with temperature set at 120 to 140 degree Fahrenheit.
You would usually find them in yoga studios in the US. The trend has also come to India. Now, what is so special about infrared sauna that yogis are going crazy?
Now, you must have done a traditional sauna session at least once in your life if you are a fitness enthusiast. It is said that it can be tough on your body. The difference between traditional sauna and infrared sauna is that the former is an aggressive way to heat the body. Infrared heats-up objects, so it makes your core temperature rise. It is far gentler and more effective in heating your body. It is compared to the sun and is a nourishing and therapeutic feeling.
Infrared saunas are known to lower the stress hormone cortisol and increase serotonin (that makes you feel good). On the other hand, aggressive traditional saunas send the body into the fight or flight mode leaving you all hungry and exhausted. An infrared session post yoga class is a great way to seal your asanas practice, relax and meditate. You will emerge out of the session as a chilled out person. It is like a reward!
Infrared saunas increase the body’s core temperature that results in deeper and detoxifying sweating at the cellular level. The infrared heat is deep and penetrating. It makes your cells increase their metabolic activity that triggers the release of stored toxins through the liver, kidneys and sweat. Infrared saunas are also helpful in decreasing inflammation.
Why people are flocking to it?
The mental benefits being endless, individuals especially yogis are rushing towards it for the physical benefits. It helps in improving blood circulation and that makes more amounts of oxygen and nutrients to be pumped into the body letting yogis have a more complete practice. It is also known to increase the ability of the body to recover more quickly.
Though going to the sauna after your yoga class is a great way to relax, some people recommend that you go for the infrared sauna class before your yoga practice too. The reason is that it warms up the body and also prevents injury! Expert yogis say that it is why you do sun salutations or Surya Namaskar in yoga. Infrared is doing all that work for you now. So, just enter the room, get all warmed up, sweat well and let the endorphins rush through your body so that there is sufficient energy.
However, remember that you are going to sweat so don’t forget to carry a water bottle along. Ensure that you are hydrated. As your body is heated faster is this kind of heat, you will lose more amount of water.
So, what are you waiting for? Find an infrared sauna near you.
