Menopausal Transition And Yoga
The Indian woman has come of age, and life-expectancy too has increased for her. Most Indian women I know of now spend at least 1/3rd of their lives post menopause – battling it. This is why, I write this to bring in more attention towards;
-
Pre-menopausal, and
-
Post- menopausal symptoms
It is said that oestrogen replacement can help, but the therapy has its own limits to deal with. At the moment, we need to explore more options, new ways to manage the symptoms of menopause. For example; YOGA!
Why Yoga?
Yoga and the art or science of it can help the body improve, it also helps the mind stay calm and living daily life can be easy on the soul too. Studies have shown Yoga being very helpful in combating post-menopausal issues, and to look deep into the symptoms thereby. Hot flushes and the dreaded night sweats are common amongst women who battle menopause, but there are plenty of proofs to show that Yoga can actually work wonders – psychologically and physiologically.

Benefits of Yoga for Menopausal women
It is but tough for women going through menopause to overcome symptoms in one shot, and most are scared about their image and esteem as well. But, with the help of yoga, women now can use the exercise to overcome such issues and predicaments too. One can safely say, yoga can actually help distract a person from the peril and raise self-esteem – this brings down the anxiety pangs, nervousness, depression etc.
In addition to that, Yoga also would have its own ways to bring down night sweats and hot flushes, and works well with ‘cognitive functions’ too – namely;
- Remote memory
- Mental balance
- Verbal retention
- Recognition tests etc
HathaYoga –
This form of yoga helps treat menopausal issues and symptoms, and it also helps improve hot flushes too. More and more evidence talks of short-term yoga practice which helps bring down Cardio issues and menopausal symptoms, reduces the signs and complications, helps with prognosis improvisation and other underlying issues of the body as well – all that a woman goes through with menopause.
With that being said, Yoga also helps with the ‘plasma melatonin level’ increase, and this means, you now would have better sleep at nights. Proof has come time and again on how to use yoga for better sleep, and how the art and science of yoga can help. Yoga thus helps combat sleep issues too, and which is most commonly seen with post-menopausal women.
It can thus be safely concluded that the age-old therapy of Yoga as a cost-effective and a ‘non-invasive’ method can be very effective for women undergoing menopause. Yoga surely can bring in answers for physical and mental perils and health issues, and provide plenty of reliefs too.
