You all must be wondering what is Psyllium husk. It is an amazing shrub-like herb that is most commonly found in our own country, India. Our parents if not us, know it really well by the name of Isabgol. It first originated in India itself. And later on became very popular in the other western countries.

It possesses many  health benefits and has proven effective in treating irritable bowel syndrome, colon cancer, constipation, diabetes, high cholesterol, obesity, ulcerative colitis and atherosclerosis among various many other health conditions. Alike to flax seed and oat bran, the fiber in psyllium husk is soluble. Soluble fiber  is not only very good for heart , but it also lowering bad cholesterol, which promotes healthy heart :).

Now how does it help in weight loss ? First of all ,as we know it is made up of fiber, And fiber is very good bulking agent for weight loss. It fills you up like nothing else. And that is the reason it is much better than any of the pricey weight loss supplements. Because they also work in a similar manner, by reducing hunger but are unfortunately full of complex ingredients. And can sometimes also lead to more hazard than any benefit.

I also have come across many health and weight loss supplements containing Psyllium husk either raw or in any form of flavor.  How to include Psyllium Husk in your daily diet

It is very simple. Just add  A teaspoon of it to a 200ml glass of room temperature water , simply stir with a spoon and drink it immediately before it thickens.(Remember don’t leave it for too long or else it will thicken up.).

Once you get used to it, you can slowly increase the amount to a tablespoon. If taking for weight loss consume it half an hour before meals, and you will feel slightly full than normal. If don’t want to lose weight, you can still simply take it any time of  the day, because remember it is full of fiber and these days we don’t get adequate fiber from fruits and vegetables, due to the kind of diet we consume.

Note- When consuming Psyllium husk remember to consume adequate amount of water atleast 8-10 glasses daily. Water is always good for health , the more you consume the better it is.

  2. Ya, people always use this for constipation, but do give it a try for weight loss as well, it contains good amount of fiber and therefore works like a charm.

How many tsp shd i consume to lose weight.. i gained almost 50kg in the last 3 yrs as i was upset n lyf somehow got into habit of eating raw rice.. put on so much weight.. now realising n want to lose weight at last 50 kg for my daughters sake..   6. Hi . .those who have used it. . how long does it take to show results? what is the amount of weight lost after starting to consume it ? do you get dependent for bowel moment? can you discontinue it after attaining your desired weight ?
