There could be a lot of reasons for not losing that weight even after making all efforts. I am pointing out a few of them here from my experience and by observing people around me. Let me start with my example.

Reasons For Not Losing Weight

1. Have you joined a gym, still not able to lose kilos!

Have you ever gone through this situation? A few years back, I always said to my friends – “I have joined a gym but still not losing weight”. My roommate once shot back at me and said ” But how many days do you go to the gym ?”. Problem solved :P. Joining a gym does no good, going to the gym, and exercising does!

2. Are you going to the gym regularly, still not losing weight!

One of my friends said that she goes to the gym regularly, still, she is not losing weight. I knew that she eats in control then what’s wrong with her? I asked her what does she eat at dinner time. She said that she does not like lunch at the office, so she eats a full-fledged dinner. I asked her if Dinner is her biggest meal and she said “Yes”. Bingo!

If you eat a minimum during the day when your body needs energy and eat maximum when you are about to sleep in a few hours, you are doing exactly the opposite of what your body needs.

3. Going to the gym, eating right, yet not losing weight!

Well, this scenario can have multiple answers. Let me give you 2 very common reasons.

If you are anemic, you are not going to shed weight at all, despite eating healthy and working out. Observe people around you and you will get your reply. It is a well-known fact that if your hemoglobin is low, this means that your body’s ability to carry oxygen for burning food becomes low.

Low hemoglobin -> Less oxygen carried -> Less energy released

Low hemoglobin destroys your stamina and you feel tired all the time. I know this because I have been struggling with anemia for so many years

If you have gastric issues related to constipation or an upset stomach, you are not going to shed weight at all, despite eating healthy and working out.

Gastric issues, constipation, and upset stomach are the problems directly associated with our digestion system. Our digestion governs our weight. Please don’t take this problem lightly.

These are the basic reasons which you might not have ever thought of in relation to your failure to lose weight. There are many other reasons also like the portions, proportions of nutritional elements in your food, etc.

    I have a question…. when I joined a gymn… I neede to take a week / 10 days break at least once in a 2 / 3 months due to unavoidable family reasons (daughter’s holidays, heavy rain, periods, travel, ILs visits, etc)…. during this period I felt gloated… and also starting the routine once again was very difficult… my body started to ache and pain for the first few days after the break…. which made me reluctant to go back….

    How to solve this issue…

    Also am in Chennai, if possible can U suggest a good dietician / women health related doc who I can contact…

    • Dee, when you start workout after a break, you will ache because the muscles again are put to workout. They become sore only for 2-3 days, then it becomes normal. If you think, the pain holds you back from going to gymn, start slowly. Do only cardio for 3-4 days, then switch to lower body workout for a day and then upper body. Take 1 at a time. Steam also helps to relieve soreness if you have steam bath in your gymn. Else hot water bath does a good job. Don’t be afraid of pain. If you don’t become sore, means your workout has not started 🙂

      Dee, do you have specific health issues ? Is phone consultation and emails ok ?

  3. Thanx Tarun… wl restart along with steam (also sauna?)…. also will start light as suggested and thn pick pu the pace…

    My issues are thyroid and stress (for which I am already making some lifestyle changes, but still in the initial stages)….

  4. Hey tarun…I eat right and as much healthy as possible.I walk daily fr 5 kms.I lost quite a lot but now I m struggling to lose last 5 kgs.I m aneamic and I m taking iron supplements…I hv constipation and I take isabgol or nityam churna daily.I hv thyroid and I take altroxin daily….
    I m not losing wieght….any suggestions…??

    • Shilpa, last few kgs are usually difficult to lose. iron supplements dont cause weight gain, that’s what doctor said to me this time. But you ask any fitness person in gymn, he willl say iron tabs cause weight gain. my tabs are pretty strong n make me feel hungry and crave for more. So,i have started to take them at night. Drink loads of water. Have a cup of hot milk at night,this will prevent constipation. Thyroid needs special attention. Please see a doc and get urself checked in every couple of months. Get a food dietician also to get your thrypoid on track. There are foods you need to eat and avoid in thyroid.

    Have tested for thyroid (regularly) and am taking eltroxin 50 mcg – 1 daily… am not anemic… checked it… I have only consulted an endocrinologist for the medication and not a dietitian…

    For stress… am practising meditation daily and get body massage @ home as often as reqd… among other things….

    Re yr prev query… yes phone and emails are good… provided the consult is really good and is able to relate…

    Also when am unable to go to gym (like today.. its raining cats and dogs in Chennai)…. can I use the morning walker… is it any good…. my maa bought it and promptly sent it to me… when I couldn’t shed my baby fat…

  7. hey tarun need ur help i am big fan of ur page …m loosing weight as i gain in last 3 month about 7 to 8 kg but now i have loose quite off… now my weight is same as it was before but its too much …have to reduce near about 7 kg and m also doing walk, yoga, dance m also try to eat healthy as much as i can n water too ..but i am not loosing fat of tummy n inner thigh i dont know what is reason behing can u suggest me something…
