Find Out How To Stay Well Hydrated!
Our body is 60% water as it is required by every organ, tissue and cell to carry on with their functioning. So, to stay healthy, you need to stay hydrated. However, you might not even know when your body is crossing the line and entering into the dehydration territory. You might think that thirst is the first indicator of the fact that you need water. However, the truth is that thirst indicates that you are already dehydrated. Losing 1 to 3 percent of the body’s water content is mild dehydration and occurs due to the normal stuff like metabolism, waste removal, too much of sweating due to exercise or due to the weather. It can affect your energy levels as well as your mental stamina.
If you want your body to perform its best, you need to stay well hydrated:
1) Find out how much water you have to drink in a day
There is this eight-glasses-a-day rule but everyone’s intake is different. Generally, women need 11 cups and men need 15 cups of water a day. The amount of water needed by you is based on how much you weigh, how much you eat, what the weather is like and how active you are.
2) Have a glass of lemon water every morning
When you are asleep at night, you stay without drinking water for a long time. So consuming a glass of water in the morning will rehydrate your body and kick start your metabolism. The toxins in your body will also get flushed out. Add lemon slices into the water to get the much needed dose of vitamin C. It helps improve immunity and provides you with antioxidants. You are more likely to guzzle down the water because of the citrusy taste.
3) Get creative
A great way of staying hydrated all day long is sipping on a cup of herbal tea. You can make your smoothies or even plain water interesting by adding chopped fruits or berries into it. This way you will look forward to hydrate yourself.
4) Make sure that you stay hydrated before and after your workout
Drinking water before working out ensures that your electrolyte levels are normal to support your muscles while exercising. It can provide you with more energy. You can swap the sugar packed sports drinks for healthier options. You can add some Himalayan sea salt to your water. After you are done with your workout, get a drink that has potassium and calcium in it. These are the main electrolytes that the body loses when you sweat a lot.
5) Eat hydrating foods
You might not know but 20 percent of your water intake comes from the food consumed by you. You can consider eating more of cucumber, cauliflower, spinach and strawberries as they have more than 90% water content. You can always make a cucumber and tomato salad, squeeze in a bit of lemon juice and add salt and pepper to it. Make it a part of your daily diet.
Hope the above ways to stay well hydrated will be useful!
