Here’s How To Make Waking Up Easier!
Not a morning person? Hmm…it may be difficult to move out of the bed in the morning! It is not just you; there are so many people who find it difficult to move out of bed in the morning. Don’t worry; here are a few tips that will help you out:
1) Don’t keep hitting the snooze button
Don’t know who brought in the concept of a snooze button 😛 People tend to keep hitting it and continue to sleep. It is a bad habit as it brings you out of deeper and restorative sleep and keeps you in a lighter one. Place your alarm on the other side of the bedroom so that you need to get out of bed to switch it off. Another trick is to sit up as soon as the alarm rings. Just try hard to resist the urge to go back to sleep and you are done.
2) Make a sleep schedule
People sleep longer on weekends when compared to week days. However, this can result in sluggishness as your circadian rhythm can go off track. Instead of sleeping in for long in the morning, plan a mid-afternoon nap. It is the time when there is a natural dip in circadian rhythms of people. However, stick to just 20 minutes.
3) Have an activity tracker
There are certain activity trackers and apps that track your body cycles through your sleep stages. Right from a light sleep to a REM (rapid eye movement) zone everything gets tracked. How it happens is that the tracking devices detect your movements in bed. For example, as you fall in deeper sleep, your muscles get more relaxed. The trackers can wake you up when your sleep gets lighter, i.e. in the morning, this can make getting out of bed easier.
4) Splash cold water on your face
This old trick works pretty well. It has been found that those who splashed their face with water after a nap felt less tired later. It triggers a surge of adrenaline. However, if a family member needs to throw a bucket of water on you each day, you have a sleep problem that is serious and needs the attention of a doctor.
Being active can be helpful in waking you up in the morning. You can choose any form of exercise, be it yoga or running! Those who do 150 mins of physical activity in a week have lesser chances of feeling too sleepy during the day when compared to those who don’t exercise.
6) Drink water
Drinking water the first thing in the morning is essential because who haven’t even had a drop of it for more than 8 hours. Going for too long without drinking fluids can make you feel sluggish. It is recommended that you drink a glass of water within an hour of waking up.
7) Schedule more activities in the morning
When there is a festival, you would have noticed that you wake up early without being told to. It is excitement! Even obligation can be powerful enough to wake you up in the morning. So, fix up a meeting with a client in the morning or have a discussion at breakfast. This will ensure that you wake up early the next morning and be more productive.
