Toxins In Cosmetics-The True Cost Of Beauty

Toxins In Cosmetics-The True Cost Of Beauty

toxins in cosmeticsHeya!!! I am back after quite a  long break!

And here is a topic which everybody can relate to very well… Cosmetics & its ingredients – the world of Toxins.

All of us think of it just before buying a cosmetic product and again forget while buying and using and again it strikes us while reading reviews before buying another product!!! And it goes on….

Cosmetics are after all cosmetic and not natural, how promising or how natural the manufacturers might claim them to be. Irrespective of their “No harsh chemicals”, “purely herbal” etc labels, they are highly loaded with certain compounds which are toxic. Its not that you’ll die instantly on applying that lip color, for example…but, gradually the toxins go down into our body- orally or through the skin. And we all let it happen just to get that so-called ‘flawless skin’ or that ‘sexy looks’. And what we get is a temporary positive result, but in the long run, the skin and body get far worse than what it naturally was. But then….hardly can anything be reversed at that stage.

Toxins In Cosmetics-The True Cost Of Beauty

Whatever cosmetic product we use does contain in varied amounts those compounds which can do a lot of harm to us. Some ingredient’s labels mention them clearly while some just mention the ‘active ingredients’ where no chemical is mentioned but it is surely used.

By using these products harm is done not only to our body but to the environment as well. Wondering how?

The answer is- the shampoo, conditioner, moisturizer, foundation, compact etc etc whatever is used, when rinsed or washed off goes into the water system. Nanoparticles used in sunscreens and cosmetics of many leading are very likely to have incredibly harmful effects on bacteria and a certain type of beneficial soil microbe. Mercury from some cosmetics can enter the environment in waste water, and may be transformed there into methyl mercury, an even more toxic compound.

And there is more to it – the Carbon footprint created by the cosmetic companies, when it’s the time we all are talking about saving energy and non-renewable resources and saving the environment.

A person especially a female on an average uses at least 10 cosmetic products in a day – body wash / soap, face wash, shampoo, conditioner, hair serum, moisturizer, sunscreen, beauty creams, compacts, eyeliners, kajal, lip colors, deodorants and a few more. So, you can just imagine what all is going into your body through your skin, specially.

Though I am giving all gyan right now, but I too have used most of these products right from the moment I woke up. And as said by Shakespeare in Merchant of Venice – “If to do were as easy as to know what were good to do, chapels had been churches and poor men’s cottages princes’ palaces. It is a good divine that follows his own instructions. I can easier teach twenty what were good to be done than be one of the twenty to follow mine own teaching “ its difficult to follow all the good that you know…but still trying to adopt the ‘all natural/ regimen.

Its difficult to stop using all these products altogether, but what we can do is be wise while choosing the products and try our best to opt for all natural and homemade stuff. Our kitchen provides us with almost all the remedies needed for all our skin and other problems. While buying cosmetic products, the labels and info should be properly read.

To help you with it, here is a short list of some potentially harmful and toxic compounds which we rub into our skins or take in through the mouth almost daily.
