Unusual Tricks To Burn Calories
Hello People!
To maintain a healthy weight you need to burn more number of calories. So, what popped in your mind right now? Exercise? Maybe yes but I am going to tell you about some really easy and unusual tricks to burn calories.
Check out the unconventional ways of burning calories!
1) Exposure to the cold
Cold outside? Brrrh! Great! You need to head outdoors! It is said that when you get exposed to cold temperatures, your body’s metabolic rate gets boosted by stimulating brown fat activity.
Your body has two kinds of fats: brown fat and white fat. Both of these have a very different effect. White fat is known to promote insulin resistance, inflammation and fat storage. On the contrary, brown fat increases the burning of calories and is helpful for weight loss and diabetes control.
Generally, the brown fat in obese people is less active than that in lean people. Studies reveal that cold temperatures can help increase the burning of calories depending on active brown fat present in the body.
All you need to do is to lower the temperature a bit at home, take bath with cold water and walk outside in the cold climate.
2) Drinking cold water
While drinking water is said to boost metabolism temporarily, studies reveal that you can maximize the effect by guzzling down cold water. There is an increase in the metabolic rate because the body needs to warm up the water to body temperature.
However, additional research is needed as the effect of water on metabolic rate can vary from person to person.
3) Chewing gum
When you chew gum, you feel full and this reduces your snacking. There exists little evidence that says it speeds up metabolism. Ensure that you opt for sugar-free gum so that you reap benefits without damaging your teeth.
4) Donating blood
Sounds strange, right? In the first place, you will save lives by donating blood. Secondly, blood donation increases the number of calories burned by you (temporarily).
When blood is donated, the body utilizes energy to make new proteins, red blood cells and other components that have been lost. However, this donation can’t be done every day. You must wait for a minimum of 8 weeks between every donation. This is to ensure that your blood supply is replenished.
Other health benefits of blood donation are:
- Reduction is inflammatory markers
- Increase in antioxidant activity
- Reduction in risk of heart disease
5) Fidgeting more
While exercising burns calories and keeps you fit, even subtle physical activity can boost the metabolic rate. This is called NEAT or non-exercise activity thermogenesis and it includes fidgeting.
Repeatedly bouncing a leg, tapping your fingers on a surface and playing with rings all fall in the category of fidgeting.
As fidgeting helps in burning calories and preventing weight gain, experts say that fidgeting and other non-exercise activity should be incorporated in daily lives.
To get benefit from NEAT, you can take the stairs, clean the house and use a standing desk at office.
6) Laugh more often
There is nothing as fulfilling in this world as a good laugh. Laughing is good for mental and physical well-being. It helps improve memory, arterial function and immunity. Apart from this, laughing helps in burning calories! Studies show that metabolic rate increases by 10 to 20%. It may not seem much but it is a great way to be healthy and happy! After all, life is all about being happy.
