Top 7 Ways To Care For Dry Lips This Winter!
Winter is here and it is that time of the year when your perfect pout gets in to trouble! Yes, your lips will get chapped and dry due to the harsh climate. However, if you take good care of your lips you can save them from getting all cracked up and unattractive.
So, before it gets too late, take the necessary steps to prevent your lips from getting chapped. Here are a few tips that help in keeping your lips moist, soft and supple.
1) Going the Ayurveda way!
Ayurveda says that when you apply mustard oil or ghee to your navel (belly button), your body’s vata gets pacified and this prevents the lips from getting chapped. Use a cotton ball to apply warm oil or ghee to your belly button. Just lie down for 5 minutes to prevent the oil from dripping down. This method is known to make your skin radiant as well as heal dry lips.
2) Avoid biting lips
People have this tendency of biting their lips when they are chapped. You shouldn’t be doing so as it can lead to injury followed by an infection later. Try to resist the temptation to lick your dry lips. Sip some water and apply a chap stick/ lip balm whenever you feel dry. Licking dry lips further dries them when the saliva evaporates.
3) Exfoliating your lips
You must be exfoliating your face often with a scrub but do you know that just like your face, dead skin gets accumulated on the lips too. You can make your own lip scrub from olive oil and sugar and gently massage it onto your lips. Buy a baby tooth brush and make use of it to gently rub off the dead skin from the lips. Then wipe your lips with a soft tissue or wet cotton. Repeat this procedure of alternate days for those oh-so-soft lips!
You do need to moisturize our lips like other parts of your body. Moisturizing is needed more if you happen to be applying lipstick as they tend to dry out your skin during winters. Apply a lip balm beneath your lipstick. If the end is result is too glossy, just blot the excess moisture on a tissue. This way your lipstick will remain intact longer and the moisturizer base will prevent them from getting chapped.
5) Avoiding matte lipsticks
This winter say NO to matte finish lipsticks. Such lipsticks not only dry your lips because of lack of moisture but will also make your chapped lips evident. But if you just love matte lipsticks then there is a way out. Apply a lip balm before you apply your matte lipstick and after removing it too. Remember to exfoliate your lips at night before applying matte finish lipsticks in order to smoothen out your cracks and remove the dead skin.
6) Staying away from flavoured lip balms
The make-up store is full of flavoured lip balms that just smell awesome but you shouldn’t give in to the temptation. It is better to avoid lip balms with added colours and fragrances. It is said that these chemicals cause irritation of the lips and tend to dry them out. Go natural instead, apply coconut oil, olive oil, almond oil, jojoba oil or cocoa butter and shea butter to moisturize your lips the natural way.
Drinking the right amount of water is essential as it helps in solving most of your beauty problems. Dehydration is one of the many causes of chapped lips. You need to drink lots of water in winter to keep your lips happy.
