Hello All!!!

Do you remember the heroine of the film Dum laga ke Haisha? Yes, the overweight girl! Actress Bhumi Pednekar essayed the role of a common girl with a not so slim body 😛 But Bhumi had to put on the kilos for her debut movie to do justice to the character Sandhya. To pile on weight she had pizzas for breakfast, gorged on Mughlai foods and had sweets. She managed to touch 90 kgs while filming. But what is surprising is that she lost all the piled up weight in flat four months. Yes! She lost 21 kgs! Now here is a breaking news, what do you say girls?

She says that she has been overweight as a child and her love for food never made her Ms Slim-trim in spite of playing sports and swimming as an adolescent.

Bhumi’s diet

Bhumi says that she didn’t want to starve and wanted to get into shape on her own terms. The most difficult task for her was fighting her genes. One of the most effective diet is the one that has just home-cooked meals. She used to drink juices as a little girl and to lose weight she resorted them. She started drinking juices of bitter gourd, neem and tulsi along with vegetable and fresh fruit juices without added sugar.

Overweight people find it difficult to fight carb cravings, but Bhumi is not fond of wheat or white rice though she loves rotis. So, she ate rotis made up of chane ka atta. She even had rajgira atta rotis. She says that one needs to be stingy while adding ghee to them and it will go a long way in cutting down calories.

She had a heavy breakfast that had large fruit bowl, peanut butter & jelly toast or Nutella spread on toasts. At times she would have missi roti with chicken sausages. At lunch she would have chicken with very little oil and masala. She would have bowls of dal and curd whenever she craved them.

Bhumi consciously upped her fibre intake by having a bowl of salad along with her lunch. She says that one should not deprive oneself when you are trying to lose weight. Whenever she craved cheese she would have half a cube of it with breakfast.

She kept her immunity in mind while modifying her diet. Kale and spinach are packed with antioxidants and a great way to detox. Aloe vera juice is another miracle superfood that she regularly has 5 times a week. Spinach and eggs met her vitamin E requirement.

Exercise routine

Her workout was designed in such a way that it didn’t tax her body as she had suffered a few injuries in the past due to sports. She has a weak back too.

Her day began with a long morning walk that at times turned into a sprint. By afternoon she would land at the gym doing 15 mins of cardio followed by 40 minutes of weight training. At times she replaced her weight training with functional training.

She played her favourite sports like badminton and volleyball so that she could lose weight in an entertaining way. Dancing to your favourite tunes is also a great way of burning calories.

Don’t make drastic lifestyle changes

She suggests that you should not make radical changes to your daily routine in order to lose weight as you will gain it all back again. It just isn’t sustainable. Bhumi is a night person. She used to wake up at 7.30 for her morning walk and had planned her gym sessions in the afternoons. If she felt sleepy, she would take a 20 min power nap. She says that you need to train yourself to listen to your body.
