Why Eggs Are The Healthiest Food Ever
Eggs are my Best Buddies ! You may also call them as my savior. Being brought up in a family where everyone is a non veggie, I am a vegetarian by choice. I am used to comments like “Hau.. how come you don’t eat non veg” ! Some of my non veggie friends go to the limits of calling me Dhabba on being a Punjabi. HUH I wish to use some nice words for all these folks, but HUH is sufficient for now 😀
Eggs are rich in nutrients – multivitamins, minerals, good fats, protein and antioxidants. Calcium, iron, potassium, zinc, manganese, Vitamin E, Folate … you name it, eggs have it !
One egg has –
Vitamin A: 6% of RDA
Vitamin B12 (Cobalamin): 9% of RDA
Vitamin B5 (Pantothenic Acid): 7% of RDA
Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin): 15% of RDA
Selenium: 22% of RDA
6 grams of quality protein
5 grams of fat
very small amounts of carbs
BUT BUT BUT , all the above nutrients are present in the Yolk. The white portion of egg is Albumin, pure protein. Next time if someone asks you to discard Yolk and eat only egg white, PUNCH the person. I mean it !
Eggs Reduce Cholesterol and Risk of Cardiovascular Disease
Its an irony that even doctors prescribe patients to throw away yolk that contains all the goodness. Eggs are high in cholesterol; 1 large egg contains 212 mg cholesterol. Now I understand the recommendation to throw away the yolk could be because some people have very high cholesterol levels but hello , even cholesterol is good and bad, read about them here.
Just because a food contains cholesterol does NOT mean that it will raise the BAD cholesterol in the blood. Liver produces cholesterol everyday, when you consume cholesterol, liver produces less otherwise it produces more. Simple, ain’t it ?
Eggs actually have been proven to increase good cholesterol (HDL) and convert bad cholersterol(LDL) to a form which does not increase risk of cardiovascular disease.
Eggs Help You Lose Body Fat
Eggs contain tiny winy amount of carbs but plenty of protein and fat. And Fat does not make us Fat, read here.
It has been found that eating eggs in breakfast causes fat loss or weight loss. Eggs have great Satiety, you will feel full after eating eggs ! I and Ana eat 3-6 eggs everyday and we can vouch for them !
Eggs contain Choline, High Quality Proteins and Amino Acids
Not many people know about Choline. It is usually clubbed with vitamin B-complex. Choline is an essential nutrient for human health especially brain health. One egg contains 100-113 mg of Choline.
Low choline intake can cause neurological disorders and cardiovascular diseases. Pregnant women should never lack choline. Egg Yolk and beef liver are sources of chloline. If you don’t eat beef, you got to eat eggs !
Lets talk about Protein, our body’s building blocks. There are approximately 21 amino acids that our body uses to build its proteins. Out of these 21, our body can not produce 9 which we must get from our diet. Eggs are among the best sources of protein in the diet. Need I say more ?
Eggs are rich in Antioxidants
There are two antioxidants in eggs called Lutein and Zeaxanthin that can have powerful effect on the eyes. They reduce risk of eye diseases like cataracts , vision impairment and blindness. Needless to say, these are found in Yolk.
