Why Jackfruit Is A superfood
Hello All!!
Let me tell you that I simply love jackfruit! It is widely available in southern parts of India. Also seen in the northern part of India, the unripe fruit called ‘kathal’ in Hindi is used to make mouth watering side dishes. Down south it is eaten more when it is ripe. I always make it a point to purchase fresh ripe jackfruit during the season.
This tropical fruit is Asian. You can find it in most southern and south-east Asian countries. Jackfruit can get as heavy as 36 kilos and yes I am talking about a single fruit!! That is why it is called the largest tree borne fruit in the world.
Jackfruit is oblong and prickly on the exterior. When you cut it open you will find lots of bulbs that are yellow in colour (if it is ripe) they are the edible part of the fruit. These bulbs have a yummy and sweet yellow flesh with a huge seed inside.
Jackfruit is rich in vitamins, minerals, energy and is free from cholesterol or saturated fat.

It has a lot of health benefits to offer.
It strengthens the Immune System
Jackfruit is a wonderful source of vitamin C, that helps in protecting against viral and bacterial infections. Vitamin C also helps in strengthening the immune system function by supporting the function of white blood cells. Vitamin C being a powerful antioxidant fights free radicals in the body. Just one cup of jackfruit can provide the body with a sufficient amount of this powerful antioxidant.
Provides cancer protection
Jackfruit is also rich in phytonutrients that have anti-cancer and anti-aging properties. These phytonutrients are known to eliminate cancer-causing agents i.e. free radicals from the body and slow the ageing of cells that can lead to several degenerative diseases.
Helps in healthy digestion
Jackfruit contains anti-ulcer properties which help cure ulcers and digestive disorders. In addition, the presence of high dietary fiber in the jackfruit helps in smooth bowel movements and prevents constipation. These fibers also offer protection by removing the carcinogenic chemicals from the large intestine.

Jackfruit contains vitamin A, that helps prevent vision-related problems such as macular degeneration and night blindness. It is essential for the skin health too.

The root of the jackfruit tree is particularly of use to asthma patients. It is known that if you boil the root of the jackfruit tree and get its extract it can be used to control asthmatic trouble.
