Vegetable oils are extremely popular for cooking in India. Ladies, the home ministers prefer vegetable oils like sunflower oil, peanut oils, rice bran oil etc for cooking, especially deep frying. Vegetable oils have high smoking point due to which they are a preferred choice. Its unfortunate that natural saturated fats like Ghee and Butter are considered to be bad for health.

Vegetable Oils are extremely processed and refined

Most of the people who understand nutrition would agree that natural foods are like medicines for the body and they heal the body inside out. On the other hand, processed food are like chemicals which one body doesn’t know how to digest. Most of the vegetable oils are extremely refined. They are prepared through a chemical process of extracting oil from the seeds. The process involves bleaching and all sorts of chemical actions. These chemicals destroy almost all the nutrients from these oils. Why would you eat something which has so many chemicals and devoid of nutrients?

Most of the vegetable oils have trans fats

Trans fat is not a natural fat. One should avoid trans fats like plague.



Vegetable Oils can make you prone to Cancer

Vegetable oils contain fatty acids that react with oxygen. These fatty acids when reach cell membranes, get oxidized and cause chain reactions. These chain reactions can harm the cell and its complete structure i.e DNA. There is some evidence that vegetable oils can raise the risk of cancer. The destruction of DNA attributes to increased danger of cancer.

Vegetable Oils destroy Omega 3 and Omega 6 ratio in body

Our body needs Omega 3 and Omega 6 in a balance. When this ratio in the body goes haywire, it can cause effects like inflammation. Vegetable oils are extremely high in Omega 6 fatty acids.  Most of the people intake excess Omega 6 fatty acid due to vegetable oil consumption whereas Omega 3 consumption remains low. This can lead to all sorts of problems in body.

Vegetable Oils reduce good cholesterol in body

You would often hear people saying vegetable oils are “light” and ghee is “heavy”. Well I don’t understand the logic here. But most probably vegetable oils are considered healthy because  they can reduce bad cholesterol in the body. But did you know that vegetable oils also lower good cholesterol and increase the risk of heart diseases. Unfortunately, cholesterol is such a negative word that people don’t understand the differnce between good and bad cholesterol. If good cholesterol did not exist, you and I won’t be alive, its that important!

Vegetable oils increase risk of heart diseases

Various studies indicate that people who consume excess vegetable oils become more vulnerable to heart diseases. In India, the number of deaths due to heart diseases is increasing every year. Needless to say, vegetable oils have a significant role to play here.
