Yippee Noodles And Bambino Macroni Banned Too!!
The year 2015 has seen some phenomenal bans and we are just half way through the year yet. Everybody’s favourite comfort food Maggi got banned and left the common man aghast. After Maggi it was Top Ramen (Read the Top Ramen story here!) and the lastest to join the bandwagon is Sunfeast’s Yippee noodles and Bambino Macroni. So long pasta lovers! Well, all this is ultimately for our own good, isn’t it?
Let us delve in deeper to find out what exactly happened!
The ban was announced by Gujarat government after the two products were tested and there was a presence of lead and the much in news MSG (monosodium glutamate) in some samples that were tested by the state FDCA (Food and Drugs Control Administration). The FDCA commissioner stated on Thursday 9th July 2015 that Sunfeast’s Yippee noodles of ITC and ‘Bambino Macroni’ of Bambino Agro Industries were banned.
Maggi’s fate is bad too as the government has extended the ban on Maggi noodles for one month. Coming back to the fresh ban, according to the commissioner of FDCA, out of 23 samples of Sunfeast Yippee noodles, 1 sample failed in the safety test as it showed higher content of lead while other samples showed the presence of MSG. In one sample of Yippee, the lead content was 3.44 ppm (particle per million) instead of the permissible limit of 2.5 ppm. This much of lead is harmful when consumed. Other samples of the same found MSG too whereas some sample were found to be safe.
Bambino Macaroni was found to have 4.1 ppm of lead something way too much than permissible limits.
The FDCA has widened the number of companies under its scanner. Till today, they have collected 133 samples of 22 food companies selling pasta and instant noodles. Out of then 33 samples have failed the test and one amongst them is Maggi. The results of other brands are yet to come. The commissioner of FDCA has added that apart from noodles and pasta, they also collected 60 samples of other food products like ice cream, wafers and soft drinks. They will get tested soon and the results will be before the public.
Now, this is a really laudable step that the FDCA has taken. It is due to junk foods like instant noodles, soft drinks, wafers and ice-cream that the health of the common man is getting affected. It is time for profit making food companies to tighten their belts and make sure that what they make doesn’t have a negative impact on the health of people. They should realize that they can’t get away after playing with people’s health. Usually, it is the children who get carried away by TV commercials and start eating junk food. This is one of the reasons why you see over weight and even obese children around you.
So, eat clean and healthy. Spread the message around!
Are you wondering what will get banned next?
